YPSILANTI, MI - September 3, 2003 - Freedom Imaging Systems, one of the nation’s leading data management and solutions developers, is pleased to install its Workflow application at Quest Diagnostics’ laboratory in Chicago.
The Chicago area site began using Freedom’s Record Image Capture and Retrieval (RICAR) system in 1997 and added Enterprise Report Management (also known as COLD) in 1999. The two applications have allowed Quest to gain control of its paper-based processes. Now, with the addition of Workflow in BDE, the laboratory will be poised to adopt a virtually paperless work environment.
Once the laboratory records are digitalized using RICAR, Workflow automates the flow of paper-based processes to BDE PC desktops. The rules and roles based system eliminates multiplicity, executes tasks in logical order and improves employee productivity by better managing the flow of work. This system allows for greater flexibility by easily sorting and resorting requisition data and sending it to definable processing queues.
The laboratory decided to implement Workflow to improve its tracking of billing records and employee productivity, as well as to increase the volume of records that could be processed per day. “It’s now easier to scan, retrieve, track, and send records to the people who need them”, said Paul Cantrell, Billing Data Entry Supervisor at Quest Diagnostics in Chicago. “The system also improves storage capacity and helps keep us in compliance with HIPAA and OSHA.”
Workflow is ideal for high volume, high performance uses like Quest Diagnostics’ laboratory environment. The Chicago site is the second Quest laboratory to implement Freedom’s RICAR, Enterprise Report Management and Workflow applications.
