YPSILANTI, MI - June 8, 1997 - Freedom Imaging Systems (Freedom), one of the leading data management and solutions developers in the United States, announces that Quest Diagnostics (Quest) has chosen Freedom to implement Record Image Capture and Retrieval (RICAR) system to improve laboratory workflow in it’s Erie, Pennsylvania laboratory. Freedom will be providing an integrated document imaging system that will allow Quest’s staff to easily share, track and access electronic records while ensuring a quick response to staff and patient needs.
Under Freedom’s system, scanners capture requisition information and transfer the images electronically from the laboratory to the billing department. Once the image is captured, RICAR electronically indexes them according to a barcode on the requisition. This customized system allows managers to secure certain requisitions to control who can obtain patient information.
Quest will be incorporating Freedom’s RICAR solution to replace an antiquated paper process that requires several employees to complete requisition handling from start to finish. Quest’s new integrated document imaging system will give staff the ability to easily track and access electronic records while ridding the hassles of handling paperwork between departments.
Quest Diagnostics is the nation's leading provider of diagnostic testing, information and services with annualized revenues of more than $3 billion. The testing performed on human specimens helps doctors diagnose, treat and monitor disease; enables employers to detect workplace drug abuse; and supports pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in clinical trials of new therapeutics worldwide. Quest Diagnostics analyzes laboratory and other medical data to help health care providers improve the care of patients. Additional company information can be found at: www.questdiagnostics.com.
