YPSILANTI, MI - February 23, 2003 - Freedom Imaging Systems, Inc. (Freedom) announces the addition of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to Freedom’s Record Image Capture & Retrieval (RICAR) Suite. RICAR, a powerful document imaging system, allows you to electronically archive documents, sort and resort them, and transfer them between multiple departments and locations. RICAR eliminates the manual handling of paper documents by easily making them available right at your desktop.
Freedom’s RICAR system search capabilities have been recently enhanced by the optional add-on of OCR to your system. Once documents are scanned, RICAR indexes the words on every document so that a full-text search can be preformed based on different keywords. The recognized text is stored in the RICAR FindIt Database to facilitate user “Text String Searching” to quickly locate a desired page within a multi-page document.
In a system without OCR, a user must examine each page manually looking for the desired information, which can be a time-consuming process. RICAR OCR reduces search time by allowing users to easily locate information on any page, from single pages to very long multi-page documents. For quality scans, greater than 90% recognition rates can be reached.
Although this application is designed primarily for Health Care EOB (Explanation of Benefits) documents, which are typically hundreds of pages long, this solution can be used in any business, manufacturing facility, or retail environment.
