September, 2010 Ann Arbor, MI: Freedom Imaging Systems (Freedom), a leading data management and solutions provider, is pleased to announce Carilion-Spectrum Laboratories has signed an agreement and installed Freedom’s FreeX12 Processor.
Freedom’s FreeX12 Processor is the latest addition to its popular RICAR (Record Image Capture And Retrieval) content and document management software suite. FreeX12 shortens the billing revenue cycle and days sales outstanding by processing raw 835 Health Care Claim Payment/Advice files, also known as Electronic Remittance Advices (ERA), and providing human readable electronic images in both batch and patient centric formats. FreeX12 also has the option to pass the patient/claim centric images to Freedom’s workflow module for automatic sorting by denial/reason code into specific workflow queues for accurate and timely claim adjudication.
Spectrum began a trial phase of FreeX12 in August 2010. The initial objective of the trial was to eliminate the printing and scanning of ERA/835 files; once implemented, it eliminated 60% of all explanation of benefits scanning allowing re-assignment of the scan operator’s tasks to other billing functions.The denial/reason code specific workflow queues will allow management to prioritize processing by code and distribute the work in each queue on a FIFO basis among as many staff as necessary to process the claim. Since the patient centric claim is stored as an individual patient record secondary and tertiary billing claims redaction is eliminated. The RICAR workflow improves the management of denial/reason code process and allows multiple users to dynamically work queues simultaneously.
Once fully tested and reviewed, Spectrum signed a three (3) year license agreement for FreeX12 effective September 1, 2010.
