April, 2008 Ann Arbor, MI: Freedom Imaging Systems (Freedom), a leading document and content management and solutions provider, is pleased to announce Piedmont Pathology Associates of Hickory, North Carolina has purchased and implemented Freedom’s document management solution: RICAR.
Piedmont Pathology is a pathology lab with a long history of serving the Catawba Valley of North Carolina for over 30 years. With the help of Freedom’s RICAR suite, Piedmont Pathology was able to completely digitalize their autopsy medical records dating back 25 years.
RICAR is not only a document management solution, but also a multipurpose content management solution. RICAR has the capabilities of handling any file an organization may encounter. RICAR supports any and all file formats including but not limited to TIFF, JPEG, PDF, MP3, MP4, WAV, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, etc. RICAR’s FreeView viewing software will display JPEG, TIFF, PDF and ERM/COLD files natively, while exporting other file formats to their corresponding application on the desktop.
Piedmont Pathology purchased a fi-5120C scanner by Fujitsu, one of Freedom’s vendor partners, to execute their scanning. The capabilities of this scanner include a 600dpi optical resolution allowing for the capture of minute details of images, a 25 page per minute scanning capability in color, monochrome, or grayscale, and a 50 page automatic document feeder ideal for hard or embossed card scanning. With the fi-5120C and RICAR’s FreeScan application, Piedmont Pathology was able to scan and digitalize their backlog of autopsy records, along with the Polaroid photographs attached to each file. Presently, digital photographs are now taken and imported into the RICAR system and linked with their scanned medical records. All of the files are available for viewing using FreeView.
The following applications of RICAR are installed at Piedmont Pathology:
- FreeScan: software for capturing documents via scanner
- FreeView: software allowing for less than three (3) second retrieval and redacting of documents from Virtual File Cabinets at any desktop
- FreeDVD: application that archives all documents scanned by ‘burning’ them to a DVD-R
- FreeReports: software for reporting productivity, document access and statistical activity
