YPSILANTI, MI - October 15, 2004 - Freedom Imaging Systems, one of the nation’s leading data management and solutions developers, was recently awarded the contract to provide comprehensive document imaging services for AmeriPath, Inc., a leading national provider of cancer diagnostics, genomics, and related information services.
Freedom’s RICAR (Record Image Capture And Retrieval) software — a powerful document management system — will ultimately be installed at 50 AmeriPath locations. This innovative solution will be used to help AmeriPath gain control of its paper-based processes and adopt a virtually paperless work environment via an electronic record system. Fortune 1000 corporations throughout the U.S. have used RICAR to improve productivity, revenue and customer satisfaction outcomes.
AmeriPath Indiana in Indianapolis became the first of the company’s 50 sites to use RICAR in April 2004, and added Freedom’s Workflow application in July. Together, these applications have reduced the need for paper records storage/retrieval and its associated costs, and allowed AmeriPath employees to retrieve and transfer requisitions in a matter of seconds. Plus, missing requisitions are now easier to track down.
“Turnaround time for answers to requisition-related questions has significantly dropped,” says Debbie Ley, IT director for AmeriPath Indiana.
The ease of document retrieval has already had a positive impact on efficiency in several AmeriPath Indiana departments, including Flow Cytometry and Client Services. Now, when a physician calls a Client Services representative, the employee can call up an order instantly, allowing AmeriPath to handle physician inquiries faster than ever before.
In addition, RICAR’s full suite of management reports are helping to keep AmeriPath on top of its data. “I like the fact that I now always know who coded each document,” says Beth Trump, billing director for AmeriPath Indiana. “I can pick out where the problem is and find out who needs to be retrained. Our production supervisor now has the ability to monitor her employees and see their specific activity by day, user, job and more.”
AmeriPath selected freedom’s RICAR software due to its ease of use and implementation, competitive pricing structure and flexible adaptability within laboratory environments. “Freedom didn’t try to sell us anything we didn’t want,” says Tudor Williams, system design analyst for AmeriPath. “They listened to our needs and supplied the answers.”
