RICAR software suite enables Quest to respond more quickly to staff and patient needs

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Freedom Imaging Systems, one of the nation’s leading data management and solutions developers, is pleased to announce that Quest Diagnostics will implement Freedom’s Record Image Capture and Retrieval (RICAR) system at its New Orleans laboratory. Freedom will provide an integrated document imaging system that will allow Quest’s staff to easily share, track and access electronic records while ensuring a quick response to staff and patient needs.

Under Freedom’s system, scanners capture requisition information and transfer the images electronically from the laboratory to the billing department. Once the images are captured, RICAR electronically indexes them according to a barcode on the requisition. This customized system allows managers to secure certain requisitions, thereby controlling who can obtain patient information.

The RICAR solution replaces an antiquated paper process at the New Orleans site that required several employees to complete requisition handling from start to finish. Quest’s new integrated document imaging system gives its staff the ability to easily track and access electronic records, while eliminating the hassle of handling paperwork between departments.
